Previous Rogue Bookkeeper/Accountant

A company approached Leisa after they lost confidence in their previous bookkeeper/accountant.

It turned out the previous bookkeeper and accountant wasn’t regulated or insured and had made numerous mistakes in bookkeeping,  VAT returns and year end accounts filings.

Leisa identified a significant number of errors, discussed and worked with the Director to help him understand and correct previously filed accounts. There was also a back log of bookkeeping, payroll and pension contributions that hadn’t been completed or submitted. Leisa dealt with the authorities, appealed surcharges and rectified the accounts as well as dealing and working with a VAT inspector who had chosen to investigate previous irregularities in the company’s VAT returns.

S455 Tax

An individual contacted Leisa through recommendation after being told by his current accountant that he had this extra S455 tax to pay of over £7000, completely unexpected and he did not understand why.

An initial meeting was held to discuss what this tax is, how it becomes applicable and how to ensure taking money from a business is planned efficiently to minimise the risk of running into such unexpected and difficult tax situations.

The S455 tax was reclaimed as the previous accountant had not reclaimed the tax when it could have been and Leisa helped the client monitor their income and expenditure with available profits on a monthly basis to ensure the drawings from the company to the individual were planned and taking into account tax payable on the profits and drawings.

The client is now much more in control and has an understanding of how to operate the finances smoothly and often has questions to ensure everything is running as expected.

Management Accountant covering Maternity Leave

A high turnover company (£8m+) was losing their company accountant to maternity leave and at the same time the accounts assistant had handed her notice in.

The company was unsuccessful at finding a suitable replacement and ran out of time for a complete handover and replacements.

Leisa stepped in and spent a few hours with the accountant who’s baby arrived unexpectedly early and took over the position. With a vast amount of month end adjustments and checks to make to ensure the meticulous standard of preparation for the month end accounts continued, Leisa turned around the accounts within 5 days to meet the company’s deadline and assisted in recruiting an accounts assistant.

Leisa took over the sales commissions calculations for sales staff in different parts of the UK and liaised with staff of different departments to ensure the accounts team were receiving accurate information.

Leisa created an improved role for the new in house accounts assistant, creating a weekly and monthly work schedule, setting deadlines for tasks and training the new recruit.

The company’s finance department operated much more efficiently and Leisa managed to fill in gaps that were open for errors within the procurement process previously.

A company’s bookkeeper left after 16 years, knowing the systems inside out. Leisa was approached to take over the bookkeeping and procurement process.

Leisa helped source and recruit an in house full time bookkeeper and administrator. Leisa introduced Xero, integrated Xero with the other industry specific software being used and provided staff training on Xero.

Leisa provides weekly support, oversees the inhouse bookkeeper’s processes and deadlines, ensures customers are paying on time and suppliers are invoicing correctly. Completing VAT returns, monthly management accounts provided to the Director, cash flow monitoring and forecasting, maintaining the purchase ledger and advising on scheduling payments and is on call for all the Director’s business and personal tax and dividend planning needs.
